By now you would have already heard or seen the Kanye West “Runaway” short film.

Many who have seen the film either don’t know what to make of it or simply don’t know its purpose. We at Urban Islandz put together a short analysis to help you figure out the true underlying meaning of the film “Runaway.”

Runaway is a 35 minute long music video for Ye’s upcoming album “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.”

The 35-minute movie is one long music video for a bunch of songs off his upcoming album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and features Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks in a weird bird costume resembling a Phoenix.

The key to understanding Runaway lies in the interaction between Kanye and the phoenix.

Kanye sit with the Phoenix creature. “All of the statues that we see, where do you think they came from?” she asks him.

“I think that artists carved them years and years ago,” West replies. “No, they are phoenix turned to stone,” Ebanks responds. “Do you know what I hate most about your world? Anything that is different, you try to change. You try to tear it down. You rip the wings off the phoenix and they turn to stone. And if I don’t burn, I will turn to stone. If I don’t burn, I can’t go back to my world.”

The film is centrally about Kanye West going through adversity and remaking and reinventing himself. Something that the Grammy winning rapper has been able to accomplish time and time again.
