Co-creator of the popular “Yes We Can” song Will.i.am recently opens up about President Obama’s performance.
The Black Eyed Peas front man has joined the list of President Obama supporters who would like to see and hear more action from the Oval Office.
Speaking with NY Times on his upcoming Super Bowl XLV halftime performance, Will.I.Am share his thoughts on the President’s performance.
“I don’t want to hope anymore,” Will said, in reference to then-Senator Obama’s campaign slogan. “I don’t think we should hope anymore. We hoped enough. Now we have to do. We all have to do now.”
After heavy economic decline, senate turnover, low approval ratings, “Birthers” and Tea Party race-baiting, Deborah Solomon asked Will.i.am if he too was disappointed in President Obama.
“I don’t feel disappointed,” Will added. “I feel like, ‘Argggh! Speak louder!’ I feel like, Do something! I feel like jumping in.”
Will.i.am appeared on “Yes We Can” along with several other celebrities including Common and John Legend, which sampled and reinterpreted Obama’s famous New Hampshire Primary speech. Commenting on said speech Will said, “that speech made me think of Martin Luther King…”
The song have since won an Emmy Award, and Obama won the election, becoming America’s forty-fourth and first African-American president.
