Jamaican Artistes Embarks On Two Months Japan Tour

More than a dozen Jamaican artistes, musicians, dancers and singers, dubbed “Jamaica Rocks,” are gearing up for a lengthy tour of Japan as part of a cultural performance programme.

The tour is being coordinated by the prestigious Min-On Concert Association in collaboration with the Embassy of Jamaica, Tokyo, and Jamaica’s Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture.

Jamaica Rocks will feature the breadth of Jamaican expressions ranging from folk to popular forms, covering some 24 cities beginning Friday September 9.

The performances will also trace the evolution of Jamaican popular music from Mento to Ska, Rocksteady through Reggae and Dancehall.

Among the artistes to be a part of the programme are singers Abijah, Tessanne Chin, dancers Marlon Simms, Chelcia Creary and Javana Rowe; musicians Seretse Small, Courtney Sinclair, and Everton Pessoa.
