Dancehall star Vybz Kartel will have his first court hearing today for his highly publicised murder trial.
Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was denied bail when he reported to court yesterday to answer to ganja charge. Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey cited the more serious charges of murder and illegal gun possession as the reason to keep the deejay behind bars.
Vybz Kartel was slapped with murder charges last week following a high profile arrest on Friday (Sept 30) in Kingston. The deejay was taken to several homes he either frequent or owned, where extensive searches was carried out and computer equipment seized.
Kartel was charged in connection to the murder of St. Catherine businessman Barrington “Bossie” Burton.
Shawn Storm behind bars
Vybz Kartel’s protege Shawn Storm remains behind bars after turning himself over to police earlier this week. Storm was named a person of interest and was being sought by lawmen.
No charges was laid against the Portmore Empire deejay.
