Police sources have stepped forward to address rumors that dancehall star Vybz Kartel escape from the New Horizon Adult Remand Centre this morning.
Reports surfaced online early this morning claiming that the deejay and several other inmates started a riot resulting in the death of one guard and the injuring of several others. The report alleges that the men escape in a vehicle assigned to the Remand Centre. The incident reportedly started between 1 and 2 am this morning and lasted less than an hour.
Police sources told Dancehall HipHop that Vybz Kartel is still very much behind bars and is shocked about the rumors.
“Palmer (Kartel real name) is still behind bars and have no intention to make a foolish escape,” the source said. “The facility is heavily guarded 24/7. Additional, if he tries to escape that would be an act of guilt and could result in him loosing his life,” the source added.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Green has also dispelled the rumors, stating he knows nothing about it.
“I know nothing about that. If that had taken place I would would certainly have known,” Green said.
Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adijah Palmer, returns to court on Friday.
The Portmore Empire deejay is facing two murder charges, conspiracy to murder, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of ganja charges.
Law Enforcement also hinted at an additional 5 murder charges to be laid against the dancehall hitmaker.
