Two months after his hit single “Ravin” was added to BBC 1Xtra playlist, Popcaan now makes the British radio station’s “Hot 20 for 2012” list.
The Portmore Empire deejay, who just ended a good year, is the only Jamaican on the list. Also featuring on the list are rapper A$AP Rocky, American singer Frank Ocean, the UK’s Etta Bond, Delilah, Dot Rotten, Josh Kumra, Sneakbo, Daley, RaxXxon and rapper Azealia Banks.
According to 1Xtra reps, all 20 acts will be featured in a video interview. Popcaan’s interview, which is two-minutes long, was done with the artiste in Jamaica. In his 2 minutes interview, Popcaan opens up about his career and how he got his big break in dancehall.
“What really put mi out to the people dem still is Clarks, A weh yo get da new Clarks de daddy, a which colour dat mad inno paddy,” Popcaan said while quoting lyrics from his hit single “Clarks” featuring Vybz Kartel.
Popcaan also share his thoughts on dancehall music influence in the community.
“Nuff people feel sey dancehall music sparks violence and crime inna di community and dem ting deh. But is not really like that yuh zeeit. Di artiste dem sing wah dem see and weh dem hear. So big up to dancehall music again and reggae music.”
