Have you signed the Vybz Kartel Fair Trial Petition?
Dancehall fans across the world were sent into shock in October of 2011 when a massive police operation converged on a hotel in and arrested Vybz Kartel. Days later he was slapped with two murder charges.
But after a year and a half and several delays, Vybz Kartel has yet to begin his trial. Not only are his fans enraged, but they are adamant that the former Portmore Empire deejay is being treated unfairly by the Jamaican justice system.
Earlier this month Vybz Kartel’s lawyers indicated that they will be seeking bail for the deejay due to the numerous delays in his trial. However, a judge denied that bail, citing the mounting evidence the defense has against him.
Michael Dawson, Vybz Kartel business partner and co-author of his popular book Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto, kicked start a petition to force the justice system to grant the deejay a fair trial.
Fans who signed the petition will agree to the following message:
I hereby support a Fair Trial for Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer in each of the cases he has before the Court. It is my belief that this would include the right to bail, the right to be able to earn a living whilst awaiting trial as under the law he is still an innocent man. I also believe Mr. Palmer has a right to be treated as Innocent by the Media and the Legal System as he has not been proven Guilty of any of these crimes in any Court of Law.
Fair Trail for Addi
Vybz Kartel returns to court on May 27.
