Vybz Kartel is in for a rough ride in the Jamaican justice system.
The former Portmore Empire boss returned to court this morning along with his co-accused in relation to the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.
He was expected to begin trial in the oft-delayed case, however, Supreme Court judge, Marjorie Cole-Smith, set a new trial date for November 18.
A small group of Vybz Kartel supporters, who gathered outside the court house, were visibly angry as news of the development in the case emerged.
“Them fi free Worl’Boss and stop plot to keep him lock up in them nasty jail,” one Kartel supporter told Dancehall HipHop reps.
Jointly charged with Vybz Kartel for Williams’ murder includes his protege Shawn “Storm” Campbell, Shane Williams, Kahira Jones, Stylist Calvin “Moonie” Haye, and Andre St John.
Shawn Storm was absent from court today and the judged ordered him to report to court on June 7.
Vybz Kartel, born Adidja Palmer, has been behind bars since September of 2011. He will be in jail for two years at his next trial date in November.
According to police report, Vybz Kartel and his co-accused beat Clive Williams to death at a home in Havendale in August 2011 over a missing firearm.
Detectives say they have video evidence implicating the dancehall star in the murder.
Williams’ body has yet to be found.
