Buju Banton will be released from prison in 2018 as originally planned. Over the past couple of days there has been rumors popping up on blogs and on social media claiming that the reggae singer has been given another reduction to his sentence.
Last year Banton received a small reprieve in his sentence by two months. His original released date was set for January 2019, but after the reduction he should be a free man by late 2018.
As of the time of this publication, the US Federal Bureau of Prisons website indicates that Buju Banton’s release date is set for December 8, 2018.
The Grammy-winning reggae singer, whose real name is Mark Myrie, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his drug trafficking conviction back in 2011. He has maintained his innocence and lost several appeals for a new trial.
