Tuff Gong Partnered With US Company To Revive Vinyl Factory As Sales Rise

You will soon be able to get some Bob Marley music on vinyl once again or perhaps even some new dancehall music on hard copy.

Tuff Gong International has partnered with a United States-based company to revived its vinyl manufacturing business in Kingston. The move came after vinyl records sales hit a 28-year high last year and is projected to continue to grow this year. Some producers and music consumers still favor the old school format and refer to it as offering premium quality sound.

The company’s vinyl factory at 220 Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston is set to undergoes a major renovation to accommodate a surge in sales with customers coming from as far as Asia and Europe. The effort by Tuff Gong is through a partnership with SunPress Vinyl based in Miami. That company will be handling current orders from Tuff Gong’s client while the Kingston factory undergo renovation over the next few months.

Reggae legend Bob Marley founded the vinyl pressing company in the 1970s as part of his vision for a one-stop record production facility where musicians can record music and have it on vinyl at the same place.

It will be interesting to see if vinyl can make a full comeback in the digital age of online music streaming.
