Alkaline Spending The Weekend In Jail Held Without Charge

Alkaline is spending the weekend behind bars despite not being charged with any crime.

The “Champion Boy” deejay has been in police custody since Thursday undergoing question in relation to the January murder of Rohan Morris in Kingston. The hashtag #FreeAlkaline is already trending on social media as dancehall fans weigh in on the case.

Here is what we know. Police sources told Urban Islandz that the law allows investigators to hold the dancehall deejay, whose real name is Earlan Bartley, for a certain period of time. However, Alkaline’s attorney Peter Champagnie says he will be going to court if his client is not released by Monday.

There is still no word yet on whether or not Alkaline will be charged with any crime. Heads the Criminal Investigations Branch, ACP Powell, says that detectives are currently reviewing the material gathered from their interview of the deejay and will be making a decision soon. Morris was shot 15 times and killed in Maverly on January 13. Investigators say that his 5-year-old daughter witness the gruesome murder.

Champagnie maintains that Alkaline is fully cooperating with the police as their investigation continues. Is the Vendetta deejay being treated as a suspect or a witness?
