Kendrick Lamar Celebrates DAMN Going Double Platinum

Kendrick Lamar has a lot to celebrate this week with his tour selling out and his album DAMN being certified double platinum.

The album has the biggest debut week so far this year outside of JAY-Z‘s 4:44 which was certified platinum within the first week. DAMN sold 605,000 copies in the first week and debut at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Kendrick Lamar posted a photo of his double platinum plaque on Instagram that he got from the Record Industry Association of America, RIAA.

“These murals forever belong to my fans,” Kung Fu Kenny wrote. “You’ve always taken my words above and beyond. Around the world and back again. With trust. I am forever grateful. 2x.” Fourteen weeks after the album release, DAMN is still doing well on the Billboard 200 chart with 56,000 copies sold in the last week. That is more than a lot of artists first week sales. The album sits at number two on the chart behind JAY-Z’s landmark album.

Kendrick Lamar is currently touring North America for his “The DAMN Tour” and he is getting some support from his rap peers including Chance the Rapper and J. Cole who made guest appearances at his shows in Chicago and Detroit this week respectively.
