Charly Black Taps ‘Despacito’ Singer Luis Fonsi For ‘Party Animal’ Remix

Charly Black taps “Despacito” singer Luis Fonsi for the remix of his dancehall mega hit “Gyal Yuh A Party Animal.”

The Trelawny deejay made the right move given the current success of the single in the Latin market particularly Central America. “Party Animal” is one of the biggest dancehall hits of the last decade done by a Jamaican artist. The single has been certified diamond with over 10 million copies sold worldwide. Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi mega blockbuster single “Despacito” featuring Daddy Yankee is one of the biggest songs on the planet this year. The single spent 16 consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart is currently sitting at number three on the chart.

Charly Black and Justin Bieber are featured on the remix for “Despacito” and that helped propelled the original version of the song’s commercial success. Fonsi now returns the favor and delivered a verse for Blacks’ “Gyal Yuh A Party Animal.” Charly Black’s manager, Julian Jones-Griffiths, says that the remix was the idea of bigger heads at Republic.

“They are looking at this as the follow-up to Despacito,” Jones-Griffiths said. “They’re aiming high for it. Even though it’s done well mainstream, they still believe they can fulfil real potential. Party Animal never really connected in the US, but they always believed in it, and refused to give up on it. They are convinced that it’s a hit record, so they’re using Luis Fonsi’s momentum from Despacito and giving it the push. Me and Charly had a meeting with the head of Republic about a remix. Charlie Walk, one of the top executives at Republic, he was very excited, and put a lot of energy into making this remix happen.”

Luis Fonsi sings his verse on “Party Animal” in a mixture of English and Spanish to keep the latin element flowing. There are no word yet if a music video for the remix will be done. The song already topped 1.4 million views in just four days on YouTube.
