Actor Ansel Elgort shown some support to controversial rapper XXXTentacion on Twitter and quickly regrets it.
The November Criminals actor posted a screenshot of a post that the Florida rapper made on SnapChat that simple reads “Just want to feel loved.” Elgart wrote on his Twitter timeline, “We do love you @xxxtentacion you’re an artist.” That didn’t go down well with some of his fans on social media who immediately called him out for supporting a rapper who is charged with domestic violence against a woman.
Before becoming a household name this year, XXXTentacion was behind bars charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, and witness-tampering. The victim is believed to be his ex-girlfriend and she has been speaking out against the rapper. Twitter user @ProsaicBeing sent him a direct message about his tweet telling him, “I know you’re not going to see this but whatever. I just want to tell you that I love you more than anyone! And I’m not kidding. What you tweeted a moment ago was problematic and people are going to call you out. You’ll have to explain yourself. You’re a celebrity, I don’t have to tell you how things work w [with] you a lot. Just apologize and all will be well. I love you. Just don’t love an abuser.
Elgort responded to the direct message and then immediately took down the tweet. In his defense he said that he had no idea about XXXTentacion’s rap sheet and only heard his music and love it. D**n I just heard his music and liked it I didn’t know he did that stuff,” he wrote. “I took it down when I saw the responses and figured something must have been wrong.”
XXXTentacion has been getting a lot of criticism lately for his antics on social media and for a graphic music video that he released earlier this month for his breakout single “Look At Me.” The video depicts violence including a scene where he hung a child.
