JAY-Z ‘s “4:44 The Favorite To Win “Song of The Year” Grammy

Can JAY-Z take home the covetous “Song of the Year” Grammy award at the 60th Grammy’s?

Last year was a big year for music particularly young acts, but the OGs like JAY-Z stamp their authorities with some great body of work. A lot of artists put out some really good quality music, but unfortunately only one can take home the Grammy for “Song of The Year.” The Recording Academy has already narrowed down the list to five nominees. JAY-Z had a big comeback year with a classic album 4:44 which gave rise to the title track which is up for a Grammy in this category. The album was a masterpiece that resonate with both both young and old hip hop fans. JAY-Z lead the Grammy nominations with eight nods with Kendrick Lamar right behind him with seven.

The other nominees in the category comprises of some big songs that broke all sort of streaming records for example “Despacito” which is currently the most viewed song in YouTube history. Aside from JAY-Z, the other nominees for “Song of the Year” are Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber “Decpacito”, Julia Michaels with her single “Issues”, Logic featuring Alessia Cara & Khalid with “1-800-273-8255” and Bruno Mars “That’s What I Like.”

Despacito is the 3rd Spanish-language song in history to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “Macarena” topped the chart in 1996 and “os Lobos’s” did it in 1987. Despacito is not only one of the most popular song of 2017, it was streamed 8.9 billion streams across platforms such as iTunes/Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify, and YouTube. The music video has surpassed 4 billion views on YouTube. It has already received four Latin Grammys for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Urban Fusion/Performance, and Best Short Form Music Video at the 18th Annual Latin Grammy Awards. “Despacito” was ranked the fifth best Latin song of all time in 2017 by Billboard and held a position in the top ten songs of the year by Time, Billboard and Rolling Stone.

Jay-Z is one of the most decorated artists in the Grammys history with 21 trophies under his belt and over 70 nominations. This year he is looking to extend that Grammy winning streak.
